What a joyful feeling to be creating art! This is a photo of an encaustic painting I made at an art workshop this past Sunday – my first art class in 32 years! It is a painting in wax with a couple of elements imbedded in the wax. Creating this got me thinking, “what is a ‘work of art’?” What is it that happens in adult hood that most of us stop making art when it can be so much fun?
That is a beautiful photo. Birch trees are one of my favourites but there are not many grow in this part of Australia. I suspect it is too hot for them.

Indeed I would imagine there are few birch trees in most of Australia since they are adapted to cold. Historically they have thrived here in NH (just south of Canada) but there is speculation they will become stressed in the southern end of the state and disappear as the climate warms.

I loved the art, and THEN I read the little messages–especially “he hid in plain sight just by keeping still”–and suddenly the art came alive and I REALLY loved it. This is wonderful!

Why thank you! My goal for the class was to show up, stay in the moment and not worry about what the end product looked like. It was fun!
