I have a new camera with a strong enough zoom that I can now take bird pictures. Yahoo! This is one of my first shots. This is an American Goldfinch (female) at our bird feeder outside of the kitchen window. Isn’t she beautiful? With the longer zoom I could stand back from the window and not frighten her off.
I look forward to experimenting and seeing what this camera can do.
See my second attempt here.
Which camera is it? Mine’s a 28x zoom, called a bridge camera cos you can take it off auto & play with the settings, which means I’m having to read a lot of photography 101 blog posts… And practice with it to learn how to use it not on auto!!
A bit too big for my pocket, but it fits in a medium sized handbag ok… So it comes most places with me now, a Panasonic lumix DMC FZ-62

I was very tempted by the Lumix bridge cameras but ended up getting a Nikon Coolpix L820. It is still basically a point and shoot but has a nice 30x zoom. I read a whole bunch of feedback from people and the features on the Lumix are superior in lots of ways but people raved about the quality of the Nikon photos so I went with that. My neck & back aren’t agreeable to carrying around an SLR. Maybe when I get them strong enough again there will either be more options in bridge cameras or I’ll take the plunge and get an SLR. In the meantime, I’m having great fun with this one. (It also fits in a handbag but not a pocket. I’m holding on to my pocket-size Lumix for those times I don’t want to carry this one.) Cheers!

I love Nikon Coolpix 🙂 It was my first digital camera, they are brilliant… I am tempted to get another as a pocket camera so I don’t have to carry the panasonic everywhere, they are such good cameras (as your photos show!)

How wonderful! There have been so many time I’ve wanted a camera like that.

It is wonderful. I am so excited! It’s still a point and shoot but has a 30x zoom whereas my pocket camera that I was using only had an 8x. It got great ratings from people on the quality of the images which was the deciding factor for me. Maybe some day I’ll get an SLR – the biggest downside for me with them is that they are too heavy to carry for my neck & back. In the meantime – I think I’ll have a lot of fun with this one.
