Castles & Cobblestones

We are back from our first ever trip to Europe and greatly enjoyed our time in Portugal visiting Lisbon, Sintra, Evora & Carrapateira.  We enjoyed exploring the architecture & history.   It was fascinating to think about how the buildings, winding staircase alleyways and narrow cobblestone streets were constructed back before modern construction equipment; and just where did all of that building material come from?!?  That is a lot of stone!  The countryside was enjoyable to see as well blanketed by wheat, grape and olive fields as well as hillside after hillside of cork trees.  Did you know that Portugal produces 50% of the world’s cork and has the #1 surf beach in the world?

The trip was a great way to celebrate turning 50!  We would definitely recommend a visit to Portugal.

  1. A magnificent place. I would love to go some day. What were the temps when you were there? Were the evenings cooler than the day or the same?

    • Moderate temps – mid 60s to mid 70s F. Nights ranged from high 40s to high 50s. It seemed like we were in a bit of a cooler than normal spell for the 2nd half of our trip. It was a really fun trip. I’d encourage you to go. 🙂
