Animals on the move: who’s waking up?

Late winter/early spring is a great time to see who is moving around the woods because animal tracks and scat are easier to spot before all the snow melts. Here are some photos of various animal signs I have noticed over the past couple of weeks. During the past few days we have also heard an increase in cardinal calls, the first geese honking the announcement of their arrival back from the south as well as two barred owls calling to each other during our walk yesterday.  I am anxious for the ice to finish melting in the wetland behind the house and for the spring peeper chorus to begin.   What you have you been noticing?
