Weekly Photo Challenge (Renewal): One step at a time

Approaching summit of Mt. Major

Every walk in the woods or hike for me is a renewal; something I must do to feed my soul . . . not optional. This hike is a milestone for me in my current year-long renewal process of getting my life back from Lyme disease.

In February, our 20 minute walks around the block with our dog were often a struggle from the pain in my knees and overwhelming fatigue. In late March, was my first trip back to my favorite woods walk (a one hour walk followed by a two hour nap to recover). In June, I made it up my first uphill hike, a slow trek up a low mountain in the town we live in which would normally take 30 minutes to summit. In September, my doctor challenged me to take a longer hike. Yesterday, was my second trip up Mt. Major, a 70 minute hike up. I was tired yesterday and then needed an afternoon nap. But, I am healing one step at a time. I have some distance yet to cover but I am so grateful to be well on my way.

  1. Putting one foot in front of the other, taking one step at a time. It’s what we all have to do at some point in our lives, and many of us for a very long time.
